Elizabeth MacKenzie-Kent
4 février 1944 - 6 novembre 2018
Elizabeth Ann (Beth) Kent, died November 6, 2018 at Lennox and Addington County General Hospital in Napannee, Ontario with her daughters and son-in-law by her side. Born in Windsor, Nova Scotia, she was the daughter of Charles MacKenzie and Beatrice (Churchill) Mackenzie. Predeceased by her mother and father, sister Brenda MacKenzie and husband George Kent. Beth is survived by daughters Tracy (Tim Hillis), Harrowsmith, Ontario and Amy (Scott Hopper), Kentucky, son Timothy MacKenzie, grandchildren Eamon, Liam (Breanna), and Rebecca Hillis, Alexis, Elena, Zachary and Jackson Hopper, great grandchild Charlotte, as well as many much loved companion animals.
In 1982 Beth joined the newly formed Lunenburg County SPCA. She was a charter member of SHAID Animal Shelter, cofounder of the Nova Scotia Humane Society and South Shore Trap, Neuter and Release. She was also heavily involved in wildlife rehabilitation and was a staunch advocate for animal rights, spending the majority of her time, energy and money for the cause.
Beth was trained as a Medical Records Librarian and worked at Dawson Memorial Hospital and South Shore Regional Hospital in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia for close to 40 years in various capacities. It was in Bridgewater, as a newly hired Librarian, that she caught the eye of George Kent while driving her convertible 1961 MGA. They married in June 1967.
Beth enjoyed swimming in the LaHave river from the shore of the home she loved and felt blessed to own on its banks. She also spent time sailing her Laser, skating, skiing and horseback riding. In her later years she bought a second home in Moscow, Ontario to be closer to family during the winter months. She very much enjoyed the area, her neighbors and church family at Moscow United Church and being close to her daughter and grandkids. The close friendships she formed in this area were a source of strength to her and her family in her final months as she battled aggressive cancer.
In memory of Beth she has requested you have some meatless meals and remember to be compassionate to non-human animals. “They are all God’s creatures!”
